The electronic music journey of Mor Elian is driven by the three pillars of evolution, community, and innovation. Tel Aviv-born Elian's early years were spent sifting through crates of krautrock, jazz, prog rock, and early electronic sounds in the city's legendary record shop, The Third Ear. This innate curiosity would sow the seeds of an artistic curiosity that would flourish in subsequent years. Now, as a full-fledged, multifaceted artist, Mor Elian will come to Bucharest as Control Club welcomes her to the stage on Friday, January 17.
During her late teens, her relocation to Los Angeles was the genesis of a transformation from avid listener to active artist who became integral to LA's robust underground scene. Together with Jimmy Maheras, she co-founded "Into The Woods," a series of renegade parties that brought an unpolished energy to the city. Through "Into The Woods," Los Angeles was introduced to the likes of Theo Parrish and Moodymann. Such creative exposure definitively enriched a city often dominated by commercial house and techno.
After a decade of navigating LA, Elian deliberately relocated to Berlin to immerse herself in a global electronic music hub. She honed her production skills in Berlin, releasing her first release in 2015, 323 to Plaza EP, on the British label Prime Numbers. In 2016, her breakthrough EP Drum Vortex (Hypercolour) was released. Characterized by intricate percussion and unconventional sound design, the EP announced Elian as a producer unafraid to veer into left field. This reputation saw releases on Radio Matrix, Banoffee Pies, Visual Spectrum, and ParallaxEditions (under the Alloy Sea alias).
She co-founded Fever AM with Rhyw and Cassegrain in 2017. The label's inaugural release, Cymatic Ring, quintessentially captured Elian's complex rhythms and defiance of four-on-the-floor predictability. Fever AM is a cultural hub supporting emerging talent and organizing events prioritizing connection over hype. Her releases later releases, Move Like Atoms (2018), Radical Spectacular (2019), Diva Test (2002), and Glue Kit (2023), cemented her reputation for creating cerebral and visceral listening experiences.
As a DJ, whether at Berghain or Gottwood, Dimensions, or Berlin atonal festivals, her masterclass sets weave techno, electro, and experimental into seamless narratives, traversing genre with finesse. A sought-after presence on dance floors worldwide, her past tour dates include appearances at TBA Los Angeles,// about blank, Corsica Studios, The Breakfast Club, and a slew of large-scale events.
