Marie Pravda treats her music as more than just dancefloor fodder. Czech-born and fiercely dedicated, Pravda’s (aka "truth" in Czech) psychedlia-laden techno sets that drift beyond conventional club experiences. Her journey from the small underground scene of the eastern Czech Republic to Europe’s most esteemed stages will bring her to Bucharest on November 29, where she will join Berlin's JakoJako [INSERT LINK] for a night of exploratory techno at Control Club.
It all begins in Olomouc, a quiet city in eastern Czech Republic. Pravda immersed herself in its modest scene. She cut her teeth performing at Metro, a local chill-out spot where tempos rarely rose above 110. This pace allowed Pravda to experiment with subtleties and amplify the moments between the beats.
But Olomouc is only the beginning. Eventually, by way of Brno, Pravda moved to Prague, where she quickly stood out. In the Czech capital, she launched her radio show, Narrativ, on Punctum Radio. Narrativ became her laboratory, a place to gather sounds intimately speaking to her. As she half-jokingly says, these are tracks she would play “at your ego-death funeral”—music meant to accompany profound transformations.
Her reputation grew and grew. Soon, she’s a staple of Prague’s scene, holding residencies at clubs like Ankali and Planeta Za. At Ankali, she is a central figure, curating a fresh perspective to the club’s lineups. Her residency at Planeta Za gave her the opportunity to launch Planeta Pravda, her own series of events that embody music as ritual ethos. Furthermore, Pravda would also become involved in managing Prague’s Harmless Youth label. With these two residencies and label, Pravda is shaping Prague’s scene now, not just participating in it.
In 2020, Pravda took another leap forward, joining Gravity, an international exchange program that links DJs from European clubs—Jasna1 in Warsaw, Revier Südost in Berlin, and Ankali in Prague. Through this initiative, she collaborates with DJs and audiences from diverse backgrounds, adapting her sets to new spaces.
As her confidence and influence spread, so do her performances. She now graces the boothes of Garage Noord in Amsterdam, Jasna1 in Warsaw, Laut in Barcelona, and Panorama Bar in Berlin. Her work has reached even wider audiences through various mix series, including the Ute Mix Series, Galactic Funk, Future Intel, and MNMT Recordings.
Marie Pravda’s journey from the underground clubs of Olomouc to Europe’s most iconic stages is just the beginning of her story. Her influence promises to grow, making her integral to the exciting future of the electronic music landscape.
