Known affectionately as ZaaZaa, Rosie Cain and Nadia Anderson are the duo behind Kiara Scuro, the London-based project that’s equal parts meticulous craftsmanship and spontaneous chaos. Drawing from the chiaroscuro technique of balancing light and shadow, their name isn’t just a nod to Renaissance art—it’s a manifesto. In their hands, music is a study in contrasts: light and dark, euphoric and melancholic, disciplined and anarchic. Their world is where psychedelic slow burners dissolve into driving acid lines, abstract techno meets proggy rollers, and everything is on the brink of the unexpected. On Friday, January 10, Control Club welcomes Kiara Scuro and their blend of contrasting musical styles to Bucharest.
Originally under the name ATLAS, the seeds of Kiara Scuro were planted in 2016 when the two came together on Reprezent Radio. This connection would become an incubator for their now unmistakable style. Over four years of monthly broadcasts, Rosie and Nadia ditched rigid boundaries to favor visceral mood, adding additional radio spots on Worldwide FM, NTS, Noods, and Rinse FM. From hypnotic synthscapes to dark and playful beats, their back-and-forth energy behind the decks became the foundation of their live sets, making them just at home warming up Corsica Studios as closing The Cause.
Beyond London, they have electrified crowds across Europe—from the cool minimalism of Berlin to the experimental spirit of Helsinki. And let’s not forget their festival outings: Glastonbury, Field Maneuvers, Gottwood, Love International, and Dimensions Festival have all hosted Kiara Scuro.
With a solid live foundation, Rosie and Nadia's foray into production (and other aspects of the scene, like Rosie's Human Endeavour Records) felt inevitable. Combining acid and progressive trance, their first tracks—like Trance Would Be A Fine Thing—showcase a wiry trance aesthetic infused with acid elements debuted on compilations for Accidental Meetings, Goddezz, Müstesna Records and Ritmo Fatale, and Limit UK with an immediate, genre-bending sound grounded with a dancefloor pulse. In 2023, their track Revelation found its way on the new, deeper-focusedfabric SELECTS III compilation, presented by Love Hertz. With a debut EP on the horizon this year, the duo’s production journey is just beginning and will surely have many more milestones. While you wait for that, check out their several mixes, including Ransom Note, Stamp the Wax, Les Yeux Oranges, Origins, Lobster Theremin, and more on some of the scene's more interesting curation platforms.
As they gear up for the next chapter, one thing is sure: Kiara Scuro thrives in the unknown. For those lucky enough to catch them live or dive into their burgeoning discography, Kiara Scuro offers an invitation to embrace the unexpected.
